Bernard M. Caperton

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Bernard Mason Caperton, 62 died Thursday, April 27th at his home following a short illness.

Born at Slab Fork, he was the son of Helen Mason Caperton of Pearisburg, Va. And the late S. Austin Caperton Sr.

Mr. Caperton was the owner of Bernard M. Caperton Antiques and Appraisals, located on West Main Street, Charlottesville with 35 years of service, a genealogist and historian and the author of “The Caperton Family,” which was published in 1973.

He had served during World War II in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Other survivors include his wife, Mary Hill Caperton; four daughters, Kathryn Caperton Wright of Atlanta, Ga., Emily Day Whitworth and Mary Gaston Caperton, both of Charlottesville and Nancy Mason Caperton of Richmond, Va.; two sons, Douglas Turner Day of Brasstown, N.C. and Ian Christopher Day of Annapolis, Md.; a brother, S. Austin Caperton Jr. of Richmond; a sister, Mary Gaston Caperton Hamlin of Danville, Va., and three grandchildren, Timothy C. Wright, Mary Mason Wright and Robert Thomas Day.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. At the Monticello Memory Gardens in Charlottesville with the Rev. F.H. Morton Jr. officiating.
