L. ALLAN Caperton, 76, of Louisville, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008 at The Episcopal Church Home. Allan was born in Louisville and attended Lawrenceville Prep School and college at Cornell University and University of Kentucky. Allan was an entrepreneur and contributor to Louisville in that he, along with business partner started the first Volkswagen dealership in 1958. He was on the Louisville Zoo Foundation Commission as Vice President from 1970-1971. He was an active member of The Filson Club and served on the Board of Directors of 1978 to 1980, served as 2nd VP, 1982-1984, served on Board 1985, served as 3rd VP 1987 to 1991, and served on Board from 1992 to 1997. He was a member of the River Valley Country Club. Allan was a civil war gun collector, and his hobbies included model train building, travel, cooking and history. Allan is survived by his wife Patricia Ward Caperton; three children, Cathy Caperton, Kim Caperton and Adam Caperton; his stepchildren, Margaret Lee Kebsch, Charles Edward Kebsch, William Logan Watts and Douglas Hillerich Watts; his brothers, John and Hugh Caperton; and sister, Dorothy Caperton.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 am from Pearson's 149 Breckenridge Lane with private burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Louisville Zoo.
